Australian Butterfly Sanctuary entry includes the aviary’s rainforest gardens, educational exhibits, guided aviary & laboratory tour.

The Australian Butterfly Sanctuary is the leading Kuranda attraction. And secondly is the largest butterfly aviary and exhibit in Australia. And thirdly it is an all weather experience in the heart of the beautiful Kuranda village.

Most importantly as you walk through the aviary’s rain forest gardens you will be amazed by over 1500 magnificent tropical butterflies. Our butterflies include local rainforest species. Including the electric blue Ulysses and the majestic green & yellow Cairns Birdwing.

Above all wander through our tropical rainforest aviary. Moreover join a complimentary guided tour to learn about our species and visit the breeding laboratory.

The Fairy Garden

In addition the Fairy Garden is like walking into a miniature fairy tale. See small species of butterflies amongst magical fairies, miniature scenes and amongst native and non native plant species.

However the Fairy Garden is in a separate section to the rest of our aviary. Built to showcase smaller butterflies. It is home to the Grass Yellow Butterfly. Keeping the light as natural as possible, this small aviary is covered by a very light shade cloth. This way, the butterflies can feed on natural flowers rather than nectar.

The Museum

Moreover the Australian butterfly museum has a display of 584 different butterflies and moths.Species of all colours, shapes, sizes and varieties.

The museum gives you the rare opportunity to view up close the different species. From around the world. Including Europe, South America, Asia, the Northern Hemisphere and Africa.
